BE BASKETBALL was created to drive sports training to a higher level across Qatar, the Middle East and overseas, instilling confidence through great coaching thus allowing members to...
BE Themselves, BE Amazing, BE Strong,
BE Better, BE Resilient... and to BE (the game of) Basketball in every single session.
Ben Smith and Eric Gardow met in Doha in 2011 and quickly bonded over their shared passion for teaching basketball and impacting lives "one bounce at a time." By 2015, they had led successful training programs across the Middle East and Asia and launched BE Basketball as their mission to embody the game. Today, BE Basketball is Qatar's leading basketball training program with over 300 active members, trusted by the NBA, and serving the Doha community with top-level coaching and player development.

ABOUT BE BASKETBALL
OUR LEGACY
Since 2015, BE Basketball has worked with top basketball experts worldwide and is the only independent academy trusted by the NBA to run two NBA Skill Camps alongside legends like Dikembe Mutombo and Marco Milic. In 2017, we hosted Team USA’s 10-time gold-winning coach Don Showalter, who trained our players with cutting-edge techniques. In 2018, founders Ben and Eric collaborated with global trainer Ganon Baker during his high-level skills tour. Our reputation has also allowed us to train NBA G League players, WNBA athletes, Division One NCAA players, and American professionals competing in Qatar’s Basketball League. BE Basketball is truly trusted by top players and coaches in the sport.
The Doha Development League was established by BE Basketball in 2024 to create a competitive league for developing players within Qatar’s local community. It includes seven basketball academies and over 300 players aged 8 to 18, who compete every Saturday across two campuses and three courts. In just nine months, it has grown to become the biggest development basketball league in the country.
The league offers players the chance to practice newly learned skills, understand game flow, and enjoy a real basketball experience with whistles, crowd noise, warm-ups, and timeouts. This prepares participants to excel at higher competitive levels.
The DDL runs every Saturday from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM, featuring four clubs per age category competing for playoffs and championships. Each season lasts two terms over six to seven months, with medals and trophies awarded to winners.
