BE BASKETBALL boys & girls shine in Qatar’s Inaugural Jr. NBA Championships!

The Jr. NBA season in Qatar concluded with the BE BASKETBALL girls’ team achieving an impressive second place out of ten games, while the boys team reached the top eight in over twenty games.

This marks a significant milestone as Qatar welcomed its first Jr. NBA season, which commenced on April 20 with a Team Draft event setting the tone for an exhilarating season.

The Jr. NBA is the NBA's global youth basketball program that aims to teach the fundamental skills and core values of the game at the grassroots level. By leveraging the excitement of NBA and WNBA teams, Jr. NBA strives to inspire young athletes worldwide.

Girls Team Takes Centerstage

The BE BASKETBALL girls team has been a standout unit in this inaugural season, not only for their exceptional performance but also for their participation in the HER TIME TO PLAY program. This WNBA initiative is dedicated to championing change for girls and women, providing opportunities to connect, collaborate, and actively engage with basketball and each other.

Coach Julia shared her thoughts on the season: "It was an incredible experience for the girls, who had the chance to be inspired by WNBA superstar Sylvia Fowles. This program transcends basketball; it’s about instilling life values, building confidence, and empowering girls to become their best selves."

The girls’ participation in the Jr. WNBA league itself was equally impactful. "Competing in the Jr. NBA was a fantastic opportunity for us," said Coach Julia. "We had numerous close games that enhanced our team’s chemistry, and the progress from our first game to the finals was evident. Even though we didn't clinch the title, I couldn't be more proud of my girls. To me, they are GOLDEN."

Boys Team's Strong Performance

Coach Ed expressed his enthusiasm about the boys team's journey: "Participating in the country’s first ever Jr. NBA was a remarkable experience for everyone involved, particularly the players. Competing under the banner of an NBA team like the Houston Rockets was a unique opportunity that brought immense excitement and motivation. Such an event was much needed for Qatar basketball. I believe it will significantly enhance the basketball culture in the country as we prepare for the FIBA Basketball World Cup here in 2027! As summer approaches, we are already planning and eagerly anticipating the next season."

Looking Ahead

As the season wrapped up with a celebratory event, BE BASKETBALL is already looking ahead with great anticipation. The club’s commitment to fostering talent and promoting basketball in Qatar remains steadfast. With the success of both the girls and boys teams in the Jr. NBA, BE BASKETBALL is poised to continue developing young athletes and elevating the sport within the community. Programs like HER TIME TO PLAY will remain integral, ensuring that both girls and boys receive the support and opportunities they need to thrive in basketball and beyond.

The future looks bright for BE BASKETBALL as they build on this season's achievements and prepare for even greater successes ahead.
